The internship – which is presently funded by the
Region - provides three weeks of annual internship
within the region for college students who are
considering youth ministry as a potential vocation or
volunteer ministry within their local church. Lanette
Gilbert, youth leader and a member of the
Moundsville First Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ) was the 2009 Intern.
It is hoped that the proceeds from the named fund
will not only better provide for the expenses and
modest stipend to the interns, but perhaps even
expand the time or number of internships available
as the fund develops, according to Regional Minister,
the Rev. Thaddaeus Allen.
Through the years since the death of Tad
Fitzsimmons – who was an avid participant in
Disciples youth camps and conference – many have
helped contribute to the current expenses of the
internship which honors his memory.
According to Rev. Jayne Chafin, pastor of the New
Martinsville congregation, there is a deep
commitment in the life of the church to continue to
remember Tad and to strengthen the scope of the
internship. The New Martinsville congregation has
made the initial contribution to the fund, and
encourages those who remember and loved Tad to
contribute as they are able by sending their tax-
deductible gifts to:
