The Rev. David T. Chafin was called as Deputy Regional
Minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in West Virginia on
January 1, 2008, and was installed at the Regional Assembly the following
April. He previously served as Pastor of
the Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Huntington,
WV, following a co-pastorate with his wife,
the Rev. Jayne L. Chafin, at Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in
Hubbard, OH.
A graduate of Marshall
University where he studied music,
Rev. Chafin received the M.Div. degree from Methodist
Theological School
in Ohio, and served congregations of the United Methodist
Church and the United Church of Christ
prior to his ordination in 1994 at the First Christian Church (Disciples of
Christ) in Chillicothe, OH.
He previously chaired the WV Region’s Commission on Ministry, and has
served in numerous ecumenical and community organizations in WV and OH. He presently serves as a member of the board
and Chair of the Faith and Order Program of the WV Council of Churches.
The Chafins, who reside in Parkersburg’s
Julia-Ann Square Historic District, are parents of four children: Christie
Needham, Scott Waggoner, Leslee Martin, and Katelyn
Chafin. They are grandparents to Aaron, Helen
and Rosemary Needham, twins Lillia and Madelyn Chafin,
Caleb, Jacob and Grace Martin, and William and Isaac Waggoner.
